Day 4: The daytime was left purposely free on Day 4 so we could explore, eat, drink, and maybe get a little sun. We started off the day with an incredible brunch at Chocobar Cortes
There is nothing subpar on this menu. It is actually near impossible to choose your meal. I had Chalupitas de Mofongo, which was this incredible creation of a 'taco' shell made out of fried Mofongo and stuffed with chocolate pork and avocado. Additionally, I had a frozen chocolate beverage called the Chocolada. It was almost too much food to continue on the adventure but, nonetheless they persisted.
Rallying against inertia, we wandered the streets of Old San Juan, buying local coffee and goods, and visiting the cliff walks and forts. El Morro and the surrounding forts/castles. For a history lesson on El Morro and the Spanish and African conquests of the island, here's a great resource. https://www.history.com/topics/us-states/puerto-rico-history
Needless to say, PR is as colorful and culturally complex as it is because of positioning in old trade roots and amazing farming potential. Here are our highlights prior to the rain bumming us out and canceling our sunset sail!
Our route was along the coast, starting at the old cemetery near the castle and making our way back to town on the route del gato.
After the sail was canceled, we went for HH on the waterfront and booked the evening at a flamenco show . Many tapas were consumed, as was rum.
