Mykonos day 3: roaming around the island, beaches with really expensive drinks, oyster class

After being able to sleep in finally, we hopped on the ATV for a drive around the island. It turns out that while Mykonos town has the action, there’s a whole world of hippie destination, beaches for hot people, and more on the eastern side.

ATV riding on very narrow roads up steep pitches with stone walls on both sides…all the while with full size vehicles all around; let’s just say it’s a little special. if you are not a confident driver, please just get a driver. It’s slightly harrowing and I needed wine to get back on the rear. first stop: pinky beach

positioned close to the Elia nudist colony, Pinky is the launch for many scuba outfitters. Most of the area was closed aside from Nikolas taverna at this point, but it was a great place to stop. The beach was lovely, seafood very fresh, wine was cold. Very different older crowd here as well as buses of lgbt travelers, it really presents a nice contrast to the flashy clubbing on the other side. After a lovely beach lunch of fresh fish and shrimp, we moseyed to paradise beach. Big issue here, if you aren’t getting beach lounges and staying the whole day, you are going to have the most expensive drink of your life. They charge up front for a whole day, and they don’t mention the surcharge. The view is lovely, in any case, but a boot of Greek beer is never worth 25 euro.

Next stop: oyster tasting on a remote beach. Some of the best restauranteurs visit and make their home in the islands. The chefs and other restaurant industry folks really love the food, culture, and nuances, and many of them run little side gigs on Airbnb, Viator, etc.

we chose a private happy hour with an oyster expert, positioned around sunset, with local veggies and charcuterie as well as assyrtiko champagne. It was a quaint, local experience for those of us that tire of the tourists quickly As well as those of us with shellfish obsession.

Evening meal was a late one, on the beach near the Delos dock so we knew where to go for the next day.
