Isla Mujeres: Aka. LLC meeting 2019

So, every LLC needs to have a corporate meeting right? Ours just happened to be in a beautiful place brainstorming how to make our lives easier via inventions and new career paths.

From Mayakoba, we cabbed it to the ferry at Porto Juarez. The ferry round trip is 15bucks and takes 25 minutes. A guitarist entertains for the ferry ride and very nice individuals barter with you for beer as you chill and watch the insanely clear aquamarine water go by.

On arrival, it is super easy to grab a taxi to your destination. We stayed at El Castillo Maya II on Isla Mujeres about 3km south of Playa Norte (the touristy section). The house is divided into 3 suites that can be rented together or separately, so groups of all sizes can be accomodated. A couple of negatives about this place: the host is really really bad at communication. While there was nothing particularly wrong, he literally was not reachable, which I would expect from a high end rental. Our onsite person, Yoyo, was conversely, quite easy to get a hold of. There were literally NO toiletries there (little odd again for a high end VRBO) and also nothing in the pantry (most VRBOs have basics like salt/pepper/oil. The grocery store, Chedraui, is nearby, but it is a bit strange to have nothing stocked in a property such as this.

Other than that...the place is massive. We had our own pool and deck, right on the ocean. The neighbors in Castillo I were super friendly as well so that was a bonus.

So, some things you should not miss:

1. Brisas Bar and Grill: Nightly entertainment, reasonably priced menu, waitstaff is awesome. It's a bit off the beaten path of tourism, so a little less typical. The grilled octopus and the lobster quesadillas are killer. The mojito is amazing after a long day of beaching. And the variety of entertainment is really fun, from a solo guitarist (from Massachusetts of all places) to a traditional Mexican band, there is always something interesting. We did have a run-in with a creeper of ultimate proportions here, who is apparently a local who preys on American girls and annoys the crap out of them, but our friend Joe and the waitstaff had our backs!

2. Marbella Raw Bar: Situated at a beach club, the menu is a giant chalkboard with all the fresh catches and ways to prepare on the menu. We had Kumimoto oysters, mixed conch ceviche, and a whole grilled snapper (just a light lunch ya know?) sitting on giant beach lounges right next to the water. As long as you are drinking, they don't care how long you lounge!

3. Zama Beach Club: Zama is a little further out of the way, but has a great view and lionfish tartare and 'green ceviche' which was our 'breakfast'. They are a bit more snooty than the other locations, but quite pretty for a quick gander.

4. The Soggy Peso: Owned by a couple from Georgia, the soggy peso is the perfect little eclectic sunset place. Their margaritas can kill, however. They are very good, but beware if you have more than one! You have been warned. The owners, Tommy and Ally, are super sweet and very personable! They have BBQ parties several times a week as well.

5. The Joint: Reggae bar with nightly live music and great drinks. I personally recommend the Green Mojito...it is a frozen blended mojito that is seriously incredible. The Joint Band is also worth the trip. They can play just about every genre. Pro tip: they have bug spray on site so don't be shy!

Honorable mentions! Mike's NY pizza is awesome and they deliver. Playa Norte Golf cart rental is reasonable and gas is included. Mango cafe is a great breakfast spot!

Things to do! The Punta Sur park is beautiful and lots of great cliff paths, sculpture, and big iguanas to go around. The Women's beading collaborative is very cool with all handmade quality jewelry. Isla Mujeres Brewing Company has great beers adn is the only microbrew on the island! Rent a private boat for sunset at Playa Norte! The catamaran trips all leave from Cancun and not Isla aside from the Joint bar which has a sunset cruise on a random basis. You need to contact the owner directly to arrange a spot on the rock and roll cruise but it is live music, 3 hours on the catamaran, and drinks and snacks for $70. Pretty dang good. But most of all, just chill. The island allows as much or as little chill as you would want.

Other than Eating and Drinking...we did plenty of site seeing! Check out our album!
